"The only thing that's stressful about being an entrepreneur is every single second of every single day" - Gary Vaynerchuk
While I am not an entrepreneur and, likely, you may not be either, there is a nugget of truth for everyone in that. As I type this, it is 3:12 AM. I have been up since 1:30 AM getting in a morning sweat. Training for an extreme event would require sacrifice which I was prepared to make when I signed up for it. While some might call the routine abnormal, I find it comforting, for the most part. It is a reminder of how privileged I am that I get up in the morning to run and not to work a second job to provide for my family.
That being said, occasionally, I do get tired. It isn't the tired where I need a quick power nap on a Saturday after mowing the lawn. It is the kind of tired that asks what the hell I am doing with my life, and it tends to creep in after long stretches of mental exhaustion with lack of self-care and mindfulness.
Whether it is from training, career, family, or a host of other internal or external stressors, we have to remind ourselves that it is okay to be tired, and It is okay to extend to ourselves the same forgiveness that we would show another in our situation.
Goal-setters and "go-getters" tend to be their own harshest critics, and I am no exception. Know when you are approaching a mental wall, and know when and how to disconnect before you hit it. It's ok to be tired, and it's ok rest. In the long run, it will make us better prepared for life's challenges, and it will provide a much-needed push back against the "grind" culture that has led to burnout and loss of tremendous talent.
